Sacred and Holiday Music for Percussion
SOLOS - Keyboard Percussion & Multiple Percussion
Amazing Grace Traditional - Arr. Daniel Heslink Price: $17.95 This challenging arrangement for solo marimba (four-mallets), is comprised of a four-part chorale-style exposition of the famous early American melody, followed by four variations in contrasting styles. The variations make use of performance practices of West African players of the gyil (ostinato figures in one hand against polyrhythmic melodic fragments in the other), quartel and quintal harmonies, arpeggiated textures (reminiscent of Japanese Koto performance) as well as copious use of independent rolls (single-handed). The five movements can be played as a "suite" or independently as the performance context requires. This is an ideal piece for sacred contexts as well as the recital hall. adv. high school/college. |

Two Marian Hymns for Solo Marimba Brett Jones Price: $15.95 These two works were written separately as stand-alone chorales for solo 4-mallet marimba. Both chorales are intended to be rolled throughout. The performer should feel free to alter the roll style and speed to fit the musical direction of each phrase. Each chorale begins with a borrowed melodic line from a Latin Marian chant. The Salve Virgo chorale borrows from the Gregorian chant, Salve Virgo singularis and the Redemptoris Mater chorale borrows from the Alma Redemptoris Mater, a Marian chant sung during the Advent and Christmas liturgical seasons. What Shall I Cry? Daniel Davis Price: $18.95 Inspired by biblical passages from
Isaiah and I Peter this challenging solo was commissioned by the
New Mexico Music Teachers Association. Premiered by Christopher Shultis, this work displays many interesting textures and allows ample opportunity
"The musical vocabulary is contemporary and full of passion. Marimba players looking for advanced literature will find this work challenging and musically rewarding." Sound Sample |
With Sunshine In His Face Ben Wahlund Price: $12.95 This is a beautiful, melodic and accessible intermediate to advanced level marimba solo that incorporates many contemporary marimba techniques. Inspired by the composer’s experience with the death of a loved one and the ensuing grieving process the work "is meant to capture death’s grief and the coping that accompanies it, while addressing very important marimba techniques. Conceptually the solo aims to bridge the gap between two poles in percussion literature - particularly advanced pieces with little accessibility, and elementary pieces that revolve around exercising certain techniques, with what seems to be little regard for the music involved. . . . I prefer to think of this more like a tone poem about the grieving process with a peaceful resolution."(BW) Sound Sample |

Sinfonia J. S. Bach - arr. by Rick Willis Price: $22.95
Sinfonia, for four marimbas and timpani, is derived from Johann Sebastian Bach's Cantata 29 "Wir danken dir, Gott, wir danken dir" (BWV 29) - written in 1731. This adaptation provides a setting for a percussion ensemble to perform the
Preludio from Bach’s Violin Partita #3 (BWV 1006, 1720), which is often performed as a marimba solo. In this arrangement, the accompaniment has been transposed to E major, the key of the original
Preludio, that is such a favorite with marimba artists and students. In this work's contrapuntal brilliance, each mallet part offers its own beauty, challenges and learning opportunities. Appropriate for the concert hall or |
