was
inspired by an experience I had in the summer of 1999 while spending a month in
Ireland learning about Irish traditional music and culture.
One day I had the
thrill of climbing up “Diamond Hill,” in the Connemara region of western
Ireland.
When I reached the top I had an amazing view of the coastline and
surrounding area. I wrote this piece as a remembrance of that experience and as
a tribute to the rich traditions of Irish music.
While parts of the piece are
fairly true to the sound of Irish traditional music, other parts reflect Western
classical music sensibilities.
This piece may be performed using two marimbas or with both
players on a single 5-octave instrument
